Kat Bawden

Kat Bawden is an artist, educator, and curator in Chicago whose work explores and mediates relationships between the body, memory, and the self. Kat holds an MFA in Photography from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Before becoming an artist, she studied social science and environmental science at the University of Michigan and worked as a community organizer, teacher, and documentarian for nearly a decade. Kat’s work has been supported by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and featured in ArtforumDer GriefLenscratchChicago Reader, and others.

She has exhibited and performed at the International Center of Photography, the International Museum of Surgical Science, the Design Museum of Chicago, Iceberg Projects, Comfort Station, the Los Angeles Center of Photography, and others. Kat runs MURMURATION, an exhibition space, residency, and publisher in Chicago.
